Taneleer Tivan, known as The Collector, is an Elder of the Universe in Marvel Comics. Born billions of years ago, he predates most known civilizations. He became obsessed with collecting rare and powerful objects, artifacts, and lifeforms from across the cosmos after his family perished due to his inability to foresee a universal threat.

His vast collection, housed in enormous museums scattered throughout the galaxy, includes everything from ancient weapons to unique creatures. The Collector's motivations stem from a compulsion to preserve life and knowledge, preparing for potential galactic catastrophes he believes are inevitable.

While not inherently malevolent, The Collector's obsession often leads him to morally questionable actions. He manipulates and endangers others in pursuit of his acquisitions, viewing them as mere exhibits in his grand museum. He has crossed paths with numerous heroes, including the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy, frequently acting as an antagonist due to his possessive nature and disregard for others' well-being.
